Motor Technology Center – China (MTC-China) was set up in 2001.Under one roof of Emerson ( China ) Motor Company, MTC-China is able to offer resources to support both local and global customers.

Computer-aided Engineering
A full suite of CAD tools, FEA, sophisticated electromagnetic analysis software are used to develop a motor design to meet customer electrical, performance, mechanical, and packaging needs. All design information including BOM's and prints is stored in a single data base for ease of access and to assure efficiency during the development process and production. We use web-based tools to exchange design information with US, Mexico , India and Italy counterparts to consolidate expertise of various resources into excellent motor design.

Performance Test

Normal performance test – torque-speed curve, temperature rise, locked-rotor test: We have Automated Motor Test & Plotting System (AMTPS) – the most advanced motor testing technology is able to rapidly test the performances of motors within 10KW power and 10,000 RPM , Heat-run Test System and lots of Magtrol Dynamometers in various load ranges to measure motor performance in different conditions.
Safety insulation tests: hi-pot test, surge test, current leakage, insulation resistance, etc.


Environmental & Life/reliability Tests

Environmental tests: Salt spray test, thermal cycling and humidity test, rain chambers to evaluate the ability of motors, components, and coatings to withstand the effects of rigorous weather.
Accelerating Life/reliability test -- hundreds of motors and pumps are running on more than 10 custom-designed test stations. Severe performance tests include vibration coupled with thermal cycling, continuous run, repeat start-stop cycling, and extreme ambient/load conditions and are used to measure the durability of motors, bearings, capacitors, switches, and other critical components. Frequently, we test motors in customers' end products, e.g. washing machines. Reliability is evaluated with help of Reliability Analysis software and advanced equipments.


Materials Analysis

Right material is the key to delivering high quality motors. In its well-equipped laboratories, MTC-China conducts extensive raw material analyses to magnet wire, rubber, plastic, bearing and metal parts - almost each kind of material in a motor. A lot of advanced professional test equipments are employed – FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared spectrometer), TGA (Thermal Gravity Analyzer), roughness analyzer (precision: 0.8nm), grain structure microscope, Micro-hardness tester, Rockwell hardness testers, Andrometer, Bearing accelerating life tester, Bearing radial clearance tester, magnet wire inspection equipments, Epstain tester, glow wire tester, plastic impact tester, tensile tester, magnetizer and magnet demagnetizing equipments to assure material performs to functional spec, safety and process requirements.

Mechanical Measuring

MTC-China shares measuring capability with ECMC plant. CMM , OGP smartscope, stereoscope, concentricity tester, laser micrometer and many state-of-the-art measuring tools/fixtures are engaged to fully lay out mechanical dimensions and positions.

Sound & Vibration Analysis
Aligned with customer needs of quiet motors, we test our motors in a semi-anechoic sound chamber and a reverberation chamber, both in 7,000 cubic foot. The sound chamber provides isolation below 100 hertz and 16 decibels and is able to test the full range of Emerson motor products with B&K acoustic instruments. We also provide support in testing customer end products such as air conditioning equipment, washing machines.
